Brownthought Academy

A 5-month paid internship dedicated to shaping the next generation of thought leaders and change makers.

Brownthought Academy’s Marketing Bootcamp is a workforce development program from Kultivate Labs where 5 interns will have the unique opportunity to learn about digital marketing through campaigns for cultural and community-centric projects. From email campaigns, social media strategy, paid advertising, event marketing, website design and maintenance, interns directly impact all Kultivate Labs programs: UNDISCOVERED SF, Kapwa Gardens, SEED Network, Balay Kreative, and Republika. In turn, they gain key marketing skillsets as well as a knowledge of socially-conscious economic development, from San Francisco’s SoMa Pilipinas Filipino Cultural District and beyond.

  • “This internship really helped me build my portfolio and experience in creating different types of videos and working with other creatives through some fun and impactful projects. One of my main takeaways from this internship was really being able to get involved in the Filipino community in San Francisco and the Bay Area. I learned so much more about the culture and SOMA Pilipinas. I am extremely proud of the work the other interns and I created during our time here.”

Jada Montez, BT Studios Multimedia Specialist & Studio Production
    Winter/Spring 2022 Intern

  • “At face value, an internship at Undiscovered is already such a cool opportunity that would attract anyone. But after reading about the vision, mission, and history of SoMa Pilipinas, Kultivate Labs, and Undiscovered, I realized that BA Academy was a chance for me to contribute to something truly impactful.”

Jolo Merilleno, PLINTH Agency Marketing Manager
    2020 Marketing Intern

  • “I learned how to use a lot of programs like Squarespace, Mailchimp, Sprout Social, and Facebook Business Manager. These are great tools that many companies use, so these were valuable hard skills to learn in addition to many soft skills, like communication and simply learning what ‘kapwa’ means to us.”

Kristine Dizon, OMG23 | Walt Disney Studios Senior Project Manager, Creative Management
    2020 Intern

  • “The Brownthought Academy has prepared me to be a marketing professional by understanding that not all things go according to plan and when things don’t, to be able to communicate with the team, be responsive & not reactive and make those executive decisions. It also prepared me by understanding how I manage multiple tasks & projects simultaneously.”

Jy Jimmie Gabiola, Kultivate Labs Marketing Coordinator
    2020 Intern

  • “This internship has shed light on the kind of mark I’d want to leave as a designer and the kind of company/team I’d like to work in. Being surrounded by talented creatives in a variety of areas who are all very unapologetically themselves and seeing it in action opened my eyes.”

Anjenika Ramos, United States Digital Corps Design Fellow
    Winter/Spring 2022 Web Intern

This program was inspired by Marco Jastillana (1976 - 2020), our late friend, marketing mastermind, and co-founder of UNDSCVRD Night Market and Plinth Agency. A talented visionary, Brownthought Academy’s Marketing Bootcamp was founded to honor his memory to uplift the next generation of thought leaders and change makers.
